FEATURING TWO GUEST CASTING DIRECTORS!

🎭 FROM AUDITION TO CALLBACK

You know your songs.
You walk into the room.
You dance.
You sing.
You read.

Then you hear:

“We’d like to see you again.”

Now what?

That's what this weekend is designed to teach.

This immersive two-day NYC intensive takes young performers through the complete musical theatre audition process—from walking into an initial audition with material from their own audition book to being called back for a specific role and performing songs and sides from a Broadway-style callback packet.

Students won’t just learn about the audition and callback process.

They’ll experience it.

📚 BEFORE THE WEEKEND: GET YOUR CALLBACK PACKET

Two weeks before the intensive, each student will be assigned a specific age-appropriate role and receive a Broadway-style callback packet to prepare.

Examples might include:

🎭 Young Simba or Young Nala — The Lion King
🎭 Matilda — Matilda
🎭 Or another role selected by BKA

Packets may include songs, sides, character information, and callback instructions.

Students should arrive having learned and prepared their assigned material so we can spend the weekend working on acting choices, character, storytelling, musical interpretation, taking direction, and the professional callback process.

⭐ DAY ONE: THE INITIAL AUDITION

Day One simulates the first round of a professional musical theatre audition.

Students will:

  • Participate in a Broadway-style dance call and mock dance audition

  • Audition with two prepared 16–32 bar cuts from their own audition book

  • Work on song performance and audition technique

  • Read and work sides/scenes

  • Practice taking adjustments and making changes quickly

  • Receive headshot + résumé feedback

  • Learn how to strategically use their audition book for different shows and roles

🎤 WHAT TO PREPARE

Students must bring TWO 16–32 bar cuts of either musical theatre or pop songs.

Both selections should be:

  • Memorized and performance-ready

  • Appropriate for the student's age and vocal range

  • Printed in the correct key

  • Clearly marked

  • Placed in a hard-cover three-ring binder

🎹 A professional accompanist will be provided.

🎬 DAY TWO: YOU GOT THE CALLBACK!

Now the experience changes.

Students return for a role-specific callback, working the songs and sides from the packet they received two weeks earlier.

They'll work on:

  • Callback songs

  • Sides and scene work

  • Character and storytelling

  • Taking adjustments from a creative team

  • Callback dance/movement when appropriate

  • Working with industry professionals

  • A final mock callback

And we'll tackle an important question working actors encounter:

How do I use the songs already in MY audition book to help casting see me for THIS role?

If you're called back for Matilda, Young Simba, Young Nala, or another role, what song from your own repertoire could help the creative team see you in that world?

Students will learn how to connect their personal audition material to the character, style, and needs of the project—a skill they can take into future auditions and callbacks.
